Gus was a dog in need: homeless and injured, he was on the verge of being put down.  Then he was unexpectedly rescued by a young women with breast cancer.  Gus brought hope, love and joy to Stephanie during her last days - the same gifts that she gave to Gus by saving him.  A tear-jerker that emphasizes how valuable our pets are to us, as well as a book that forces us to think about how to make sure our pets are taken care of after we die.  Perhaps a book that can also help children deal with grief, illness, and the value of pets to people's health.  The book is rich with photos, making the reading manageable for younger children.
