Rufus is a 3 year old Cocker Spaniel rescued from the Brandon City Pound. Rufus was found running loose in the Douglas area. He is a little shy and timid until he knows people and may have been abused or treatedharshly at some point. As a result, he may initially have a snarky response to quick movements, but he will improve once settled in. Rufus has excellent off-leash recall and sticks pretty close - but does fine onleash too. He is 100% housebroken and only marks outdoors. He is really very well behaved when left loose in the house, and does not need to be
crated. Rufus isn't very fond of the crate, but leaving him loose seems to work without any problems. Rufus absolutely LOVES to play in the paddlingpool his foster mom has outside - on his own terms of course. Rufus also enjoys chasing cars, so he needs to be leashed whenever he has access to them. Rufus prefers female dogs, and would not do well with an alpha type male. He is fine with cats, although he will chase them if they run. Rufus is being fostered on an acreage and he enjoys following along when his foster parents are on horseback. However, he is so comfortable with horses that his foster mom worries he might get underfoot if not watched. Rufus is coming around wonderfully and is learning to trust humans more and more. He would be best suited to an adult-only home and is NOT trustworthy with children under the age of 14. We suspect Rufus had a very bad encounter in the past with children and he does not like them -even at a distance. He would need to be confined in a separate room if children under 14 years of age were visiting. Rufus loves adult humans and loves to have people he can shadow everywhere they go.
